The Defense - Week 2 Overview
posted by Roegnvaldr, 347 days ago
The second week is over and now we have a fair idea of which teams will be advancing to the knockout brackets on the following week. The Defense - brought to you by by Razer and BenQ - is still going strong as players fight for the main prize of €6.000. The competition will continue tomorrow, but for today, let us recap on the events of the previous week and see what teams are not yet down for the count.
Group 1
One of the groups that has all of the advancing teams defined already, the two remaining matches between
Evil Geniuses and
Mousesports as well as
Darer Entertainment shall only define the top 3 places on that group. But nevertheless, they shall be advancing in the tournament together with
We Haz Asian, who qualified over
Team Infused by a very small time difference. It's an interesting turn of events and hopefully We Haz Asian will not squander this opportunity and show us some unique gameplay. As for
zNation, they fought valiantly, but as we've seen on their performance last week, their position was hardly changeable and thus they must take their leave.Group 2
Another group with set teams for the upper brackets, there is little more to say about the upcoming two matches. Although the games will happen due to completion's sake, it is still a chance for both
4 Friends + Chrillee and
Hydra to go out with a blast. Both teams have shown us amazing games and despite their losses, undoubtedly they have won in experience gain. They will even have a chance to show us what did they learn in this tournament on their last game, where they will go against each other. As for the other teams,
compLexity Gaming stands undefeated at the top, followed by
uebelst-gamynG who have shown great potential by winning three matches. A last game between
Absolute Legends and
Moscow Five will also happen. Last week we have seen that both teams stood toe-to-toe for the most part, but now Moscow Five has won the advantage. Absolute Legends have a chance to tackle the Russian giant and stand firmly at their side.Group 3
A big question mark remains over this group. With four matches left to be played, many ask where have
mTw been? They alone need to play three matches and if they do not show the same effort and synergy we've seen at previous competitions, they might be pushed off the advancing teams group. One of their matches is against
Natus Vincere, who despite their early loss, made a rousing comeback and stand tall again. Their second match will also be against the current leader of the group,
Storm Games Clan, who also have shown great promise. If mTw lose against them, this opens a chance for
NEXT.kz to take the European team's place. What also needs to be seen is the outcome of the match between
Fnatic RC and
Team Empire, which can throw the whole group into chaos. Many questions need to be answered and many games need to be played before we can see who can advance.Group 4
Just as it was mentioned last week, this group is arguably still the most interesting one. The fourth spot is still open and possibilities to reach it are plenty. Three matches will be all that takes to see who between
HelloMoto,
Power Rangers,
POTM Bottom and
Copenhagen Wolves will take the fourth spot. A lot hinges on the time of the matches. It is quite likely that POTM Bottom will stay ahead of HelloMoto unless they lose in less than 14 minutes and 38 seconds. The situation looks even more dangerous for Copenhagen Wolves and Power Rangers. Not only do they need to win their battles (or else they are out for good), they also have a time limit for it. The Wolves need to win in under 58 minutes and 13 seconds - PR, in less than 40 minutes and 35 seconds. As for
Quantic Gaming and
Counter Logic Gaming, their situation is much less stressful. They have both at least 3rd place guaranteed and must only compete for the 1st place, which in comparison seems much less golden than the fourth place.Loading...
More matches will happen today so stay tuned for the last parts of the groupstage of The Defense!

No, this rule only applied for the qualifiers. We always make the fairest possible choice.
